Univesities & Colleges

Academic Counseling Group balances students strengths, weaknesses, needs, interests, and financial resources with appropriate college opportunities. Identifying and applying to suitable colleges should be approached in a careful, organized manner while understanding the importance of college decisions in relation to personal satisfaction and career development. ACS staff members provide detailed information about academic programs, requirements for admission, and application procedures. Assistance is also given in identifying and clarifying a clients educational needs and potential. The total student is always considered in the college selection process.

Private Secondary Schools

Families may be interested in investigating boarding schools when local academic resources do not adequately meet their students needs. A variety of schools exist throughout the country, and each school has its own unique intensity, qualities and heritage. Information about the schools will be provided to the clients, and an extensive library of individual school view books, brochures, and DVDs is available through ACG.

Graduate School Counseling

Academic Counseling Services works with adolescents whose emotional and/or psychological difficulties are inhibiting proper educational development. Identifying possible underlying issues related to the students well-being is mandatory in order to determine programs best suited to the adolescent.

Overview

  • An in-depth and sensitive interview with the student and his/her family. This meeting clarifies the needs and priorities of the client and directs the path best taken at the time.
  • Evaluation of all past records including transcripts, achievement and aptitude testing, and pertinent information regarding the students personal growth.
  • Counseling interview with the student to help identify those options best suited to his/her individual requirements.
  • When necessary, testing will be advised for purposes of psychological and intellectual assessment. Referrals will be made to tutors, remedial reading specialists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other professionals.
  • After the selection of appropriate schools, the staff will assist the student through the application process.
  • Full service includes personal communication by ACG counselors with private secondary schools or college admissions offices, when appropriate.
  • ACG provides a continuing support system for students either through additional contact with the school or through helping the student identify the appropriate school from his/her list of college acceptances.

 

Association Memberships: National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA).
